Time Tough, What...For !!!, Mao Beatmen, Special 65, Serie Noire. Ihre Musik ist der frühe Reggae, Early Reggae

Café Chocolat, is a music series and community building event. We aim at celebrating and supporting local talents and newcomer black and brown artists & DJ’s within the diaspora of Germany’s communities. Our main thesis is that when communities are supported and treated fairly they will thrive.

“An evening of Bantu Soul, global rhythms, and diasporic celebration”…

Café Chocolat returns officially with another edition of its community-rooted series, presenting an unforgettable evening led by Batila & The Dream Bus—a Berlin-based collective of outstanding international musicians known for their soul-stirring fusion of grooves, melodies, and ancestral rhythm. The sound? Bantu Soul—music by people, for people—coined by bandleader and songwriter Batila, whose Congolese roots and deep love for Rumba Congolaise anchor this rich and spiritual sonic journey. https://www.instagram.com/cafechocolat.sessions/

Kabumbayi, known professionally as Kabumbayi Joh, is a Congolese singer, songwriter, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist. His music is a fusion of jazz and soukous music, originally from the Congo. At the age of 8, Joh started singing in the church choir, His interest in music deepened after being inspired by a local musician who taught him guitar basics during his daily water-fetching errands but he couldn’t imagine taking up music as a profession until he won a music competition at his elementary school. Winning this competition encouraged him to start a career in music and record his first album “Nos âmes” which opened doors to numerous events and festivals. At these performances he appeared alongside renowned African artists such as Akon, Lokua Kanza, Ismael Lô, Zahara, Oliver Mtukudzi and Oumou Sangare.

Kabumbayi Joh draws deep inspiration from the everyday experiences of life, weaving stories of love, struggle, hope, and resilience into his music. Singing in French, English,Swahili, and Lingala, he creates a bridge across cultures and communities, delivering messages that resonate far beyond borders. We look forward to hear more from him after his short appearance last Café Chocolat opening our evening with a beautiful song of his and captured tha audiences attention and ours!

The Dream Bus lineup includes Dodo NKishi (Mouse on Mars) on drums, Skyline Sun on guitar, Paul Hoyle on bass, Nane Kahle on backing vocals, Sam Konzi and Kalle Zeier on guitars, Adam Pawel Dziewialtowski-Gintowt on percussion, and Mauricio Fleury on keys and flute and some evenings lovely interchanging dreamers join us or jump off for a short trip into their own projects but the core of amazing artists bring the energy each session!

DJ Gabi Monteiro, based in Berlin, born and raised in Chapéu Mangueira and Babilônia favelas of Rio de Janeiro. She loves blending soulful tunes with dance rhythms. Focusing on sounds from the Global South, her club sets feature a range of high-energy banger tracks like baile funk, dancehall, dembow and soca. She also curates groovy, sun-kissed sets with Highlife, Brazilian boogie, Arabic disco, samba-rock, salsa and cumbia. The selections are always filled with vibrant rhythms that make our bodies move organically.

DJ Mauricio Fleury - Hailing from São Paulo but now based in Berlin, multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ Mauricio Fleury has been involved in a multitude of projects. Alongside accompanying Brazilian music giants like Gal Costa and João Donato, he's been a member of big band Bixiga 70 as well as regularly playing his trademark vinyl sets. On the decks  24-2 Uhr

(DIY = do it yourself)

In Berlin. Eigentlich ganz gerne.
